For What It’s Earth…

written by rebecca poole

April 22 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day—a day dedicated to bringing awareness to the impact we have on our environment and how we can all be a little kinder to the planet we live on. Since 1970, Earth Day has been all about action. You can help out online, right in your community, or travel to a bigger event. Earthday.org has an interactive global map that pinpoints various day-of events—whether you want to attend a rally, register for a cleanup, or support local artists at an eco-friendly exhibition.

Since Earth Day’s inception, over 190 countries have participated. Global support has made this more than just a day, but rather, a movement. By the time the new millennium rolled around, there were initiatives driven by 5,000 groups, all with one goal in mind: to encourage the world to be more environmentally friendly. Today, the conversations surrounding these efforts have only continued to gain momentum. No one could have guessed how impactful Earth Day would become.

Americans throw out an average of four pounds of trash per person per day, which is no small number. Make sure you’re disposing of your things the right way.

There are hundreds of companies doing their part to be a little greener. These are some of the companies whose efforts are worth highlighting.

Loved ones will go green once they read all about Earth Day—share this feature on social media!
